In order to emulate WeChat in X, Musk needs full control of the internet. He has too much competition to succeed in this current market with Meta, Alphabet, and ride shares like Uber. He is going to need a monopoly on the web here. What makes WeChat so successful in China is that the app is subsidized and controlled by its government. Entities like these are highly regulated and censored in China. Participation in China's app market is also limited on purpose. Chinese government doesn't allow apps like Facebook, YouTube, and Google Chat to run its services in the country. They are currently banned. Musk does own some infrastructure to achieve this dominance. He owns Starlink which has thousands of satellites orbiting the earth has I write. And many more planned to be deployed. These satellites have a global reach. Currently it is in Beta (Being tested) but services may be found in places like the United States, Africa and in Ukraine where it is being used in its war effort. It might be that X wants to go global. Maybe offering people low-cost internet in exchange for them using the super app X in order for Musk to achieve market share are in the plans. As Musk put it " X can achieve about 1/5 of economic output". Did he mean here in the United States or in the world in general, I am not sure. But what I am sure is that there is more to come. 7/31/23
